FPA General Contest Rules -
03-25-2008, 09:26 PM
The General Contest Rules apply to all contests.
1. Eligibility: Unless otherwise stated in the individual contest rules, all members in good standing of the FPA are eligible to enter, from recruits up to and including Felix. We will endeavor to make sure that all contests to not give senior FPA members, forum moderators, Felix, etc. an unfair advantage.
For contests using an external data provider, employees of said data provider and their immediate families are NOT eligible to enter, since they may have an unfair advantage over other FPA members. For contests where having moderator access or other special privileges will provide an unfair advantage, the individual contest rules will be adjusted to prohibit entry by those with an unfair advantage.
Naturally, if you live in an area where local, regional, or national laws make it illegal for you to enter our contest, then you are not eligible to enter. Each entrant indemnifies the FPA against such legal breach and assumes sole and direct responsibility for abiding by the laws of his/her own location by the act of entering the contest.
2. Prizes: We plan to offer a wide array of methods to transfer prizes to the winners. Exact methods will be detailed in each contests rules and may vary from contest to contest.
Please note that although we know of no law prohibiting the citizens of certain nations from entering our contests, we do know that US law prohibits us from sending money (or equivalent) to certain nations, such as North Korea, Cuba, and a few others. In the event a resident of one of these nations wins an FPA contest, they may elect to have their prize (or US Dollar equivalent) donated to a recognized humanitarian or environmental non-profit organization. In the event that free time with one of Felix's premium services is one of the prize options, we are not aware of any rules that would prohibit this prize option from being directly awarded to the winner without regard to what nation he/she is a resident/citizen of.
3. Tie Breaking: We will endeavor to have tie-breaking rules in place for all contests. In the event of a tie that cannot be resolved by the specific contest rules, the final method of tie-breaking will be based on the earliest entry received from amongst those who tied.
4. Multiple Entries: For purposes of eligibility, an FPA member is defined as an individual human being, not as an FPA account. Having more than 1 account does not make you eligible to enter more than once. Anyone found to be attempting to make additional accounts for the purpose of making multiple entries in a contest will be have all entries declared null and void and will be prohibited from entering future contests.
5. Disputes: The FPA Contest Director is the sole and final arbiter of any disputes and interpretations of the General Contest Rules as well as the specific rules for any one contest. If the Contest Director is annoyed too much, he will declare himself the winner of the contest and spend all the prize money on wine, women, and song. Since no one wants this to happen (except for the Contest Director), please do not annoy him too much. Since the Contest Director has cleverly abstained from defining what quantity of annoyance constitutes "too much" it is probably safest not to annoy him at all.
6. There is no rule number 6: If there were a rule number 6, you would be expected to follow it.
7. Information: Winning entrants agree to provide us with sufficient information to deliver prizes to them. We will provide an email address where this may be sent so that personal information does not have to be posted in the publicly accessible areas of our forums. Failure to provide this information within 7 days of our request will result in the Contest Director spending the unclaimed prize money on a wild night out on the town.
8. Taxes: Winners are responsible for any local, regional, or national taxes due. We can provide a written or email receipt if one is needed.
