Read the book and paid for the mentoring. Don't waste your hard earned money. Part of your "Homework" during the first lessons is to write a review on his book. That alone should keep people with half a brain away.

Read the book and take what you can from it. DON'T pay for anything else.

Not worth your time to read, let alone buy. Vague, general writing, no attempt to proof his attacks on age-old trading wisdom. Promote his Mentor program throughout the book.

Worst.....In simple words, it tells you to sell at the top established by the price on 1 hour chart and tells you to buy at the bottom established by the price on 1 hour chart.

95% of the stuff is about himself, his past and his mentoring service, 1% is the aforementioned "SMART STRATEGY" and the balance 4% is about low leverage and multiple entries and exits.

If you've extra money, better do some charity than giving money to this owner here...at least you will earn some blessing without any usage of time.....this book will not make you earn anything but will eat up lot of your free time which otherwise could be wisely utilized.

Stay AWAY!

This book is a load of self contradictory twaddle and is in many parts dangerous.
There is some good advice, like dont over trade and trade small (1%) but thats about it.
He starts by telling you everyone else is a marketeer and spends ages telling you that you should always have a mentor. Amentor just like him. Subtle marketeering eh ?
He then tells you TA is over hyped and you should generally ignore it. He tells you his system is different then goes to explain its based on TA by another name. He says he doesn't use indicators but then talks about entering trades when prices enter a particular zone. Everything he describes is TA but by another name. He talks some mumbo jumbo about 'fundamental trend'. What the hell is that supposed to be ? He says short term trends are random in FX and then expects us to believe that 'fundamental trends' aren't. Well, if you expand the picture to the same scale, they are buddy. There are so many self contradictions in this over long tome that its difficult to know where to start. The best thing is not to start but keep away altogether because its complete and utter nonsense. They guy hasn't a clue what the term 'trend' means.
He complains that other simply sell systems because they can't make them work for themselves. Well, the same is true in this case. This guy flogs stuff and mentors because he can't make it pay any other way. I don't care what credentials he porpourts to have, this guy is taking us for a ride. He's more dangerous than other more obvious scammers because he talks softly and slowly and comes across as a real nice guy. The nearest comparison I can make is that he's the FX equivalent of Hannibal Lector.

This book is totally overhyped. Although the author made some goods points about trading with low leverage and using multiple entry and exit points (scaling in and scaling out of trades), there was not a lot of useful information. His concept of always trading in one direction without stop losses will most likely pile up some large losses after series of losing trades.

This is a comment rather than a review. I bought a copy of BWILC in late 2006 and was quite enthused with Dirk du Toit's approach.
Earlier on in 2007, he forshadowed an overhaul to his mentoring program and has since put back the release date several times. In reply to an email I sent him enquiring about it, Dirk replied (briefly !) that it would be released "when he is ready". As over 12 months has now elapsed, I'm wondering how serious he is about this project - I would be interested if anybody knows more than I do...

I read BWILC about 18 months ago and was very impressed. Up until reading BWILC I had traded FX along the usual hyped methods of high levereage / tight stops / use all sorts of indicators etc...This stopped upon reading BWILC and since late 2006 I have closed each month with a profit. I strongly suggest if you want to earn a living trading FX get this book.

I think it is very important to post updates with regards to forex education and thanks to Felix for allowing this function.

More often than not, new traders become euphoric and excited with courses believing they are on the road to riches and they have finally found the course that will make them as traders, and you want to tell the world about it. The reality is that trading is a discipline. To become good at trading takes time and part of that time involves wading through heaps of forex education to discover what works and what is bull.

Whilst I absolutely raved about Dirk's course when I started the course, going on to do the mentor programme I discovered a few home truths along the way. When you are a newbie you want to trade and trade well right away. You ignore the fact that it may take a few years to master it, or maybe you are brain washed into thinking that you can make instant profits by one of the many ‘gurus’ out there. When you get stung by the market you begin to question the system you are using or you blame your broker or whatever else. You never blame yourself and you don’t have controls set up to measure your performance to find out your strengths and weakness to steadily improve. You begin to system hop until you cannot hop no more. Then you stumble on what is advertised as a ‘paradox shift’; a whole new method to trade in an affordable e-book. He blames the forex educators, technical analysis and the brokers for your trading misery, for sucking you in and stealing your money. At last, you think, finally I have someone on my side that understands where I am with my trading and will lead me in the right direction.

I did the mentorship programme and whilst its aim was to really demonstrate that the market is random and has a lot of ‘noise’ the lengthy exercises were really quite mindless considering that despite the markets randomness, there are certain fundamental patterns that the markets produce. Dirk ignores the fact that the market is made of people’s emotions which tend to produce non linear formations, a randomness form that can be recognised and which are repeated. Whilst his system can be profitable to some extent, you really cannot maximise your ability as a trader as the system is very limited to expand your skills and continually progress as a trader. The course does not teach discipline or the psychological factors of the market and the effect the market will have on you as a trader.

Dirk’s ‘paradox shift’ does teach many admirable issues such as leverage and what makes up the forex market and how it works, but in general his market randomness approach is only half baked and it is a shame he hasn’t delved into the real trading issues of market psychology. If he had done so it would somewhat alter his view on technical trading. Instead he uses tech analysis, brokers and forex educaters as battering rams into the emotions of lost newbies who are looking for an answer to their trading problems which is nothing short of clever marketing.

His over exaggeration on fundamentals to understand the bigger market picture is to blanket out the fact that fundamental variables are relatively insignificant in determining how markets behave in the short term (unless you are a news trader). Studies have shown that a short term outlook of one year or less, fundamental factors contribute to the overall return of investment, much less, than psychological factors.

As others have said already, you will gain some useful info on leverage and the forex market itself , but take his 'paradigm shift' with a pinch of salt and give the mentoring a miss.

2006-11-23 update I took the mentorship programme. It was irritatating at first having to go through a mass of data to study the effects of randomness of price action. After going through numerous excercises it has given a more comprehensive insight into the price action and has showed me where I went wrong with technical analysis for so long. The mentorship programme also gave me a clear understanding of the 4x1 method, with many tactics that are extremely useful that are not discussed in BWILC. I'm affraid Phil NJ above seems to take a very blase 'know-it-all' attitude to Dirk's work. Maybe he has been scammed too many times and can't believe the benefits of Dirk's approach. I struggled for nearly two years to understand the forex taking in most of the bull $hit that surrounds it with the technical 'gurus',and this is the first time I have been profitable in two months since I started trading the bwilc approach and I have not closed a negative trade yet. Phil, do yourself a favour, try the methods properly, you will be pleasantly surprised. Dirk is a true master at this game and he has really thought things through with his method at the intellectual and practical level.

2006-06-07STOP! NEWBIE TRADERS. YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO NOT READ THIS BOOK!! When 8 months into my trading and I wasn't getting anywhere I started looking around for answers. I came across a few psychology books and got snippets of information about what market makers and brokers were really up to. Then the realization sunk in that it wasn't just about psychology and not being ripped off by your broker that mattered. The importance of fundamentals showed its ugly head to the equation. But with these scraps of information I didn't know how to start to put it all together. Then the inevitable happened. I started to system hop with unsatisfactory results until I found 'Bird Watching in Lion Country'. Its a sad fact that many traders have gone through the career processes I have described above, being devoured by the hopes and dreams of the forex ‘mardi gras’ of education and systems promising you great profits. If only I had read BWILC from the very beginning, I would have saved myself thousands of dollars and a lot of pain and suffering. This is a must read for any newbie trader. You cannot imagine how much money, blood, sweat and tears you will save yourself by buying this book. The book is extremely down to earth and tells the market exactly how it is. It rolls together the most important components of the psychology of trading, fundamental analysis, what and who makes up the market and how, why it moves. It explains the reality of technical analysis and its relationship with the Forex education and brokerages/marketers. So many linkages are made. The book presents a holistic approach to the forex market and then gives you a building block approach of how you can trade the forex as a result of understanding how it all works. This is a must read book. Read this book before attempting any forex courses, seminars, signal services etc. It will clear a path through all, the Bull S*** in the industry and provide you with the edge that you need from the very beginning. I didn't find it a boring read at all. As soon as I started reading the first chapter I knew that this was exactly the information I needed and I couldn't put it down. I haven't signed up for the mentoring but if its as good as this book I am sure it would be well worth it.

Dirk is a straight shooter he won't scam you or take your money without doing his best to give you value in return for what you paid. I've been on a long road to get to trading success and finally turned the corner to consistant profits (7 months now) after taking Dirk's mentorsip course. Dirks knows his stuff. I've read the book and taken the mentorship program. I think Dirk deserves reviews from people who have actually perticipated in his program.I quickly scanned the reviews and only saw one other reviewer who actually took the mentorship program; Peter,London.
