Discuss is for general discussions of a financial company or issues related to companies.

Info is for things like "Has anyone heard of Company X?" or "Is Company X legit or not?"

Compare is for things like "Which of these 2 (or more) companies is best?"

Searching is for things like "Help me pick a broker" or "What's the best VPS out there for trading?"

Problem is for reporting an issue with a company. Please don't just scream "CompanyX is a scam!" It is much more useful to say "I can't withdraw my money from Company X" or "Company Y is not honoring their refund guarantee" in the subject line.
Keep Problem discussions civil and lay out the facts of your case. Your goal should be to get your problem resolved or reported to the regulators, not to see how many insults you can put into the thread.

I traded with them for a few weeks, and made some profit.
Then I requested that they send my profit through wire transfer.

They said the following:
Hello [name],

The trade regulators (SEC) are refusing to approve the payments to your
bank account. They are insisting that you pay $3,200 of profits as tax
before transfer of profits to your bank account can be approved. We are
sorry for the inconveniences. As soon you pay the tax profits will
reflect in your bank account.

Upon your response we would provide you with available payment method
for SEC fees (tax).

Kind regards
WealthMarketsCFD

Does that seem logical to you?
Would the SEC request me to pay a tax before sending me the full profit?

Thanks in advance!

US brokers withhold US taxes and send them to the IRS by default. For offshore brokers, you still legally have to pay taxes, but usually only directly to the IRS. There should NEVER be a time that you have to send tax money to a broker.

WealthMarketsCFD.com claims a USA address, but shows not signs of being regulated.

IMMEDIATELY: Visit www.sec.gov and www.cftc.gov and report this. Send them all the details about how you deposited and copies of this demand for tax money. You may also want to call them.

If you used a credit/debit card to deposit, have a chat with the fraud department at card's issuing bank regarding a chargeback.

Hi!

Thank you so much for the information!
It helps a lot!

The broker just sent me a bitcoin account to which I am supposed to send those taxes... it seems even more suspicious now...

Oh god, it really makes me wonder if they've ever been successful with these kind of scams.

I'm reasonably sure the US government doesn't take anything but US dollars for tax payments.

To to 100% certain, always pay US taxes by check and always make the check our to US Dept. of the Treasury. IRS.gov has a list of acceptable addresses to mail tax payments to, depending on what the payment is for. Any such payment should be accompanies by the proper IRS forms so that they can correctly credit it against the amount you owe.

If you want to have fun, tell the scammers you are preparing a check for the Treasury Department and ask them which IRS form needs to be with the check.
