Hi Everyone,

To cut to the chase: I already pay for an unlimited hosting account at APThosting, that I've used for about 2 years now. Isn't it possible for me to somehow upload MT4 to it and use it for a free vps? If this is possible and someone could guide me on getting it setup, I'd be glad to give that someone free vps. It won't cost me anything to do so.

Since this is my first post I'll tell you a bit more about me...

I found this website last night and it opened my eyes to the fact that my newest account has been opened with quite possibly the worst scam broker on the planet, ForInvest. But I opened this small account to test expert advisors I've been making on a real account for the first time. I'll go ahead and continue using the account for testing. I don't think it's ok to steal people's money of course, but I think what I've learned is worth more than my tiny balance. I've learned to research each broker before investing in them, and I also learned to use a loop with refresh() when entering and exiting trades in my expert advisers. That's something you don't learn by backtesting.

I named myself SystemTrader on here because out of ALL the accounts I've ever had, I've only proven to myself that I'm horrible at trading. But I'm really good at writing profitable EAs. Watching my EAs trade is like watching a pro trade, which is exciting. They stay in when I'd get out, and catch moves I could only wish to catch.

I'm glad I found this forum and your rating system. I'm looking forward to some interesting conversations.

If you have administrative rights on your VPS (99,99% of the cases) then it is not a problem using it for trading your MT4 terminal.
APThosting promises 99,9% Uptime guarantee, so you will not have any problems running your EAs.
If you are using a Remote Desktop Connection, just log on your VPS, access the website of your broker and download their MT4 terminal. (You can also upload the .exe file of course from your computer)

If you ever have a problem running an executable file that you uploaded, you have to "unlock" the file (Right click - properties - unlock) before running it.

re:

f-man, Thank you for the reply. I've uploaded the mt4 exe it to my hosting account. Now I want to run it. I looked for a way to run it from Filezilla, but I don't see a way to do it. I tried navigating to the file in a browser, but the browser tries to download the file.

Do you have any advise on how to run it?

I emailed apt, and they told me I need to have a windows server, and they are linux. But that's ok, I think paying for some web hosting that's windows based will be cheaper than most of the vps services, and no one will have access to my EAs. My host will, but they probably won't have a clue what to make of them.

I don't have any experience at all with Linux OS.
I found something in the MQL4 community: Running MetaTrader 4 Client Terminal on Linux-Desktop - MQL4 Articles

Looks very complicated. I would avoid it by all means.

VPS is the optimal solution. You can find a list of VPS providers here: Forex VPS Hosting, VPS for MetaTrader 4 Expert Advisors
Starting at $9.95/m.

Web hosting is something I never touched either. I would definitely go for the cheapest possible VPS instead of web hosting.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I signed up with swvps, so I'll rate them when I have experience with them. I'm going to trade the all-is-lost-forinvest account with it, as well as an alpari account I'm opening this week. Thanks again.

You should be fine trading that ForInvests account. They're happy to let people trade forever. It's only withdrawals that are a problem.

I thought it would go this way, but today they've stopped letting me even login to the account. These guys are hardcore with the scamming.

Some examples:

1. They manipulated prices that whipsawed me repeatedly while I slept. The next morning, seeing that I'd lost $16 when I should have only lost $4 (they whipsawed it 3 additional times), I checked prices at other vendors at saw that the pair in question never returned to my purchase price ... hard to explain, but basically they manipulated the prices so their charts were in line with the trades, but no one else's were.

2. They give Sunday evening its own daily bar. Most of my trades depend on the previous day's price action, so on Sunday evening, the correct orders are in place. Two hours later, ForInvest gives Sunday it's own daily bar and starts a new bar for Monday. This causes all the correct trades to be cancelled, and incorrect trades to be placed.

3. Apparently they even setup their server to ignore trades while making my mt4 log not realize the trade didn't go through. If I wasn't running other brokerage accounts in mt4 alongside the ForInvest mt4, I wouldn't have even know the trade should exist. I didn't see anything in the ForInvest mt4 saying the trade didn't go through. When I manually placed the trade, it took a full 4 minutes to get it placed.

4. Now, with no words exchanged between me and ForInvest as a result of any of these things (I knew they were a scam so there was no point in arguing with them, to let them know I know they know I know they're a scam) .. they've locked me out of the account.

5. My system is profitable in a demo account and my live Alpari account, but consistently lost money in ForInvest due to their manipulations.

I think these things should be interesting to anyone getting into Forex and curious about how a bucket shop can manipulate your account and make it impossible for you to make money.

They served their purpose for me, so I'm not bitter about the $100 I gave them. They helped me prepare my trading systems for live trading without risking a large amount of money. I only wish they'd let me continue trading so I could continue using them as a testing ground. I think they stopped allowing me to login because they were having to work so hard to make my profitable system unprofitable. (They also taught me the value of researching a broker on FPA before investing with the broker.)

Thanks to FPA, I knew they were a scam long ago and didn't freak out or even get upset when they pulled the plug.

Are you satisfied with swvps?
Did you have sudden restarts?
Do they run routine restart every weekend?

What was the excuse for stopping your account?
