Opening Range

How do you figure the opening range for a currency pair? This is probably a basic question, but just the same, any help is greatly appreciated?

Many people just take yesterday's high, low, and close as the range, with the close as the 'mid'.
I suppose you could also take the close, and the distance from the farthest of the two (yesterday's high and low) and expect those will be the high and lows of your current day.
