Rhodesia had the best strike force in the world called the Selous Scouts. Beats any force in the world. I read the book and what stands up in my mind the most is this guy:
He hiked from South Africa to Rhodesia with his sandles made from car tyres and a guitar on his back and long hair. Went to the SS base and asked the Commander for a job with Selous Scouts. The Commander thought he was crazy but signed him on anyway.
He proved to be the best soldier they had. He refused to have anyone accompanying him on his missions and was dropped off alone by helicopter in enemy territory with no food and had to live off the land for weeks on end.
He loved this and made many obs on "enemy" concentrations in Mozambique that he informed by radio to the Scouts.
This is the best book I have read by far. If I can find it, I will read it again.
