Daily Market Commentary for April 25, 2008 from Millennium-Traders.Com

Fridays trading session are general quiet but today, the quietness was almost frightening. It appeared as though many traders took the day off to enjoy the sunshine in the North East, possibly to hit the golf course or maybe just to enjoy the great out doors. (read more)

At the closing bell on the Stock Exchange, here is how the major world indices and major U.S. indices ended the session on the U.S. Markets:

DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) gain of 42.91 points on the day to end the session at 12,891.86

NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) gain of 94.09 points to end the session at 9,344.31

NASDAQ loss of 5.99 points for a close at 2,422.93

S&P 500 gain of 9.02 points for a close at 1,397.84

FTSE All-World ex-U.S. gain of 1.76 points to close at 250.89

FTSE RAFI 1000 gain of 42.36 points to close at 5,643.62

BEL 20 gain of 24.76 points on the day to end the session at 3,891.98

CAC 40 gain of 48.66 points on the day to end the session at 4,978.21

FTSE100 gain of 40.7 points on the day to end the session at 6,091.40

NIKKEI 225 gain of 322.6 points on the day to end the session at 13,863.50

University of Michigan End-April Sentiment came in at 62.6 compared to March reading at 69.5; University of Michigan End-April Current Index came in at 77.0 compared to March reading at 84.2; University of Michigan End-April Expectations came in at 53.3 compared to March reading at 60.1; University of Michigan Preliminary April Sentiment was 63.2; University of Michigan 12-Month Inflation Forecast increased by 4.8% compared to March increase by 4.3%.

Commodities Markets
Energy Sector:
Light Crude (NYM) gained $2.46 on the day to close at $118.52 a barrel ($US per bbl.); Heating Oil (NYM) gained $0.04 on the day to close at $3.29 a gallon ($US per gal.); Natural Gas (NYM) gained $0.16 on the day to close at $11.10 per million BTU ($US per mmbtu.); Unleaded Gas (NYM) gained $0.04 on the day to close at $3.05 a gallon ($US per gal.).

Metals Markets:
Gold (CMX) gained $0.30 to close at $889.70 ($US per Troy oz.); Silver (CMX) gained $0.19 to close at $16.96 ($US per Troy oz.); Platinum (NYM) shed $2.70 to close at $1,968.00 ($US per Troy oz.) and Copper (CMX) gained $0.04 to close at $3.91 ($US per lb.).

Livestock and Meat Markets (cents per lb.):
Lean Hogs (CME) gained 1.35 to close at 76.35; Pork Bellies (CME) shed 0.40 to close at 76.80; Live Cattle (CME) gained 0.70 to close at 93.38; Feeder Cattle (CME) gained 0.10 to close at 110.65.

Other Commodities (cents per bu.):
Corn (CBT) gained 1.25 to close the session at 590.75 and Soybeans (CBT) shed 24.00 to close the session at 1,337.00.

Bonds were higher across the board today:
2 year bond shed 2/32 to close at 99 13/32 with a Yield of 2.41, Yield Change +0.03; 5 year bond shed 3/32 to close at 99 24/32 with a Yield of 3.17, Yield Change +0.08; 10 year bond shed 12/32 to close at 97 with a Yield of 3.87, Yield Change +0.05; the 30 year bond shed 27/32 to close at 96 14/32 on the day with a Yield of 4.59, Yield Change +0.05.
