There is a difference. Exotics often have much wider spreads and are affected by more non-scheduled events.

I am the opposite, I mostly trade London and almost never trade the Tokyo session.

Apart from experience and education? I'd say discipline, which is just as important.

Very good reccomendations! I'd add USD/CAD, NZD/USD and GBP/JPY.

That is good advice. Be patient and practice what you've learn on a demo account first, the rest will come later.

Everyone has been a beginner at some point though. I would recommend caution and patience when trading, but I'd still recommend it to beginners.

Some people prefer higher volatilty when they trade and it works for them. Every person is different.

Another trader would tell you that technical analysis is more important, I think what type of analysis a trader picks is a very subjective choice that is, however, equally valid for everyone who makes it.

I agree. And if you do stare at the monitor for hour devise a trading plan that allows you for some rest, both mental and physical.
