I would consider voting not guilty if broker would explain any of this, however everything I can read from them is "it's not our fault - this is our partner fault" - nice answer - than deal with your liquidity partner and return money to your client. Also statements on their website are not true...
hope someone from FPA forum will help you with case - it is ridiculous what broker is saying, just waiting for their answer in this thread to have opinion on both sides, but so far is not looking good for them

Every good ECN broker (or even good MM) have larger spread during "big" news. This is because good brokers have market spreads and when crucial news are coming spreads will widen. Sometimes wider spreads last only few seconds, sometimes more if market is extremely volatile.
Technically pip is the smallest change in currency so 75 points on 5 digit broker is 7.5 pips on 4 digit broker.
As far as I know Dukascopy (ECN broker) accepts US Citizens (check reviews before you send them money).
