DIY Tracing Crypto Transactions
First, let me confess that I am NOT in any way an expert on cryptos or tracing them. What I do know is that a blockchain keeps records of ALL transactions, so it is possible to see when money moves into or out of wallets. Some scammers will go to extra efforts to make it harder to track where the stolen crypto goes.
Still, no matter what happens later, the initial transaction is traceable to somewhere. If you share all your info with the US Secret Service and other agencies you report to, they can trace it. But, if you do even one step of initial tracing for them, you save the authorities time, which means less time for the criminals to hide the money.
Due to my lack of expertise on this, I'm going to provide you with a few links on the subject:
https://originstamp.com/blog/how-to-trace-bitcoin-transactions
https://cointelegraph.com/explained/are-bitcoin-transactions-anonymous-and-traceable
https://www.makeuseof.com/what-is-a-blockchain-explorer
I hope these help. If I can get someone to provide a proper Do It Yourself guide for crypto tracing, I'll either post it or a link to it here.
