The European Union member states consider a crackdown on virtual currencies and anonymous payments via the Internet and pre-paid cards, aiming to tackle terrorism financing after the attacks in Paris, Reuters reported.

EU interior and justice ministers will gather at an urgent meeting in Brussels, where they will urge the European Commission to "strengthen controls of non-banking payment methods such as electronic/anonymous payments and virtual currencies and transfers of gold, precious metals, by pre-paid cards," the media cited a draft conclusions of the meeting.

The use of electronic payments, such as virtual currencies and pre-paid cards, available as gift cards in stores, allow for anonymous payment as most of the times they do not require identity verification or registration of users.

In the forex market, many brokers allow anonymous payments.
