Exotics are basically less popular or pairs with no USD in cross, they usually have high volatility or less liquidity as well. So the new traders should trade major pairs in start rather than going behind the exotics unless they have good hands on technicals and fundamentals.

Have you ever tried USD/SGD, it's actually quite liquid, and worth looking into as it is considered not that volatile too.

Again this pair is cross with the USD so it can't be an exotic one in my opinion.
