Options expiration today made for a difficult trading atmosphere today. By mid-afternoon it was apparent many traders bailed on the markets early and left the trading floor. Trading action was very whippy during the trading day, nothing like we have seen in recent days. Trading ranges were tight into the close of the trading week.

The markets ended the trading session sharply higher today, with triple digit gains. Trading action however, was muted with little action for the active traders. Ahead of the Memorial Day holiday coming up this weekend, it is likely traders will see a drop in trading volume. Traders are anxious to take advantage of the extended holiday weekend to enjoy time with their family and friends.

Economic data released today shows a continued trend of a gloomy housing market. New housing starts set an all new record low since records were kept in the 1950's.

Crude oil moved higher to reach a 6 month high. Treasury Secretary speech today provided details that the economy still faces a gloomy future.
