EUR/USD - 1.2040.. Euro moves relatively sideways in subdued Asian morning after Tue's roller-coaster rise. Despite meeting renewed buying at 1.2034 (AUS) yesterday n climbing to a fresh 6-week peak of 1.2079 in European morning, profit taking quickly emerged n later pressured price to 1.2023 in New York session.

Although euro's retreat from 1.2079 to 1.2023 signals recent strong upmove has made a temp. top, intra-day yen-led usd's weakness signals consolidation with upside bias remains for re-test of 1.2079, loss of upward momentum should cap price well below Mar's peak at 1.2112 n yield correction ahead of Thursday's ECB monetary policy announcement.
Bids are noted at 1.2025-15 with stops below 1.2000 while offers are tipped at 1.2055/65 n more above with stops above 1.2080.

No eco. data is due out from the euro-area countries so traders will take cue from intra-day movements in US yields n US stock futures.

USD/JPY - 108.00... Although dollar extended its recent losing streak and briefly dropped to a fresh 6-week low of 107.88 at Tokyo open on Wednesday on risk-off trade, price rebounded to 108.28 in European morning on short-covering but only to weaken in tandem with U.S. Treasury yields to 107.98 in New York, then ratcheted lower to 107.96 at Asian open today.

As usd has fallen after yesterday's rebound from 107.88 to 108.28, suggesting decline from March's 1-year peak at 110.96 to retrace medium term upmove from January's 9-1/2 month trough of 102.60 would resume after consolidation, however, loss of downward momentum should prevent steep drop below 107.77 (38.2% r) and yield a much-needed correction. Some offers are tipped at 108.20/25 with stops above 108.50/55 while bids are noted at 107.80-75 with stops below 108.60.

On the data front, U.S. will release weekly jobless claims and continued jobless claims at 12:30 GMT, with street forecasts at 617k and 3.667M versus prior readings of 576k and 3.731M respectively.

USD/JPY - 107.93.. The pair remains on the back foot in Tokyo morning as official announcement in Australian morning by Japanese govt. of the new state of emergency in Tokyo and 3 other prefectures due to Covid-19 triggered safe-haven yen buying, price briefly penetrated Thursday's 107.82 low to a fresh 6-week trough of 107.81 before staging a minor recovery.

Despite intra-day resumption of recent decline, loss of downward momentum should keep dlr above 107.55/60 n risk remains to the upside for a long-overdue retracement.
Bids are noted at 107.85/75 with some stops touted below there while offers ate tipped at 108.10/20 with stop above 108.30.

T.G.I.F., BoJ Gov. Kuroda will speak in the parliament starting from 02:25GMT. U.S. will later release a slew of eco. data, please refer to our EI page for details n pay attention to Markit mfg n services PMIs at 13:45GMT.

USD/JPY - 107.75.. The pair remains on the back foot due to renewed broad-based usd's weakness in early Tokyo trading on Monday.

Having said that, as rebound fm Fri's fresh 6-week trough at 107.49 to as high as high 108.14 in tandem with U.S. yields suggests recent decline has possibly made a temp. low, choppy sideways swings are in store. Offers are tipped at 107.95/00 with stops abv 108.15 while some bids are noted at 107.70/60 with stops below 107.45.

U.S. will later release durable goods for Mar n then Dallas Fed mfg business index for Apr.

USD/JPY - 108.33.. Dollar caught a bid at Tokyo open ahead of BOJ's monetary policy announcement as renewed Covid-19 concerns in Tokyo triggered broad-based yen selling.

Intra-day firm break of Monday's 108.19 high suggests recent decline has made a temporary low at Friday's 6-week trough at 107.49 and stops above 108.54/60 are now in focus, therefore, trading the greenback from long side is favoured.
Bids have been raised to 108.20-10 with stops below 107.90 while offers are tipped at 108.50/55.

BoJ is widely expected to stand pat on its monetary policy decision, however, market may pay attention to post-BOJ presser by Gov. Kuroda at 06:00GMT whether he'll continue with his dovish remarks.

USD/JPY - 108.83.. Dlr pares intra-day gain on profit taking after initial rise an 11-day high of 108.94, suggesting range trading is in store until European open.

As yesterday's impressive rise due to rally in U.S. yields suggests recent decline from March's 1-year peak at 110.96 has made a low earlier at 107.49 (Friday), buying the pair on dips is the way to go.
Bids are tipped at 108.70/65 with stops below 108.50 while offers are tipped at 108.95/00 with stops above 109.10.

U.S. will release a slew of eco. data but all eyes are on FOMC's monetary policy announcement at 18:00GMT n then Fed chief J. Powell's post-FOMC presser at 18:30GMT.
If he continues to downplay recent relatively high US yields and no hints of tapering, then usd will be sold.

EUR/USD - 1.2137.. Euro pares intra-day gain in Asia on profit taking after initial break of Wed's post-FOMC high at 1.2134 to a fresh 8-week peak of 1.2149.

As yesterday's break of Monday's 1.2116 high (now sup) signals recent upmove has once again resumed, gain to 1.2170/80 can't be ruled out later today, however, near term loss of upward momentum should cap price at 1.2200 and risk has increased for a much-needed minor correction to occur.
Bids are noted at 1.2120/10 with some stop below 1.2100 while offers are tipped at 1.2150/60.

The euro area countries will release a slew of eco. data, please refer to our Economic Indicator page for details. ECB Vice President de Guindos n Elderson will speak at 07:30GMT and 09:00GMT respectively.

EUR/USD - 1.2119.. Euro is in holding pattern after hitting a fresh 8-week peak of 1.2149 initially on Thursday and despite intra-day retreat to 1.2103 in NY morning on profit taking, subsequent rebound suggests mild upside remains for marginal gain before prospect of a much-needed correction of upmove from 1.1705 (Mar) due to loss of upward momentum.

In view of above analysis, intra-day players can buy euro for gain to 1.2160/70 while day traders can sell for retracement to 1.2100/05, a daily close below there would head back towards 1.2057 early next week.
Bids are noted at 1.2110/05 with stop below 1.2090 while offers are tipped at 1.2135/45 with stops above 1.2150.

The euro area countries will release a slew of eco. data, please refer to our EI page for details. pay attention to Germany's Q1 GDP, then the same from the EU, if the readings come in stronger than street forecast, then euro bulls will push the single currency higher.

EUR/USD - 1.2022.. Euro remains on the defensive in holiday-thin Asian trading after Friday's selloff from 1.2127 (Asia) to as low as 1.2017 near New York close as upbeat U.S. data triggered broad-based short covering in the greenback.

Intra-day retreat after initial recovery to 1.2035 (New Zealand) suggests decline from Thur's fresh 8-week peak is en route towards chart obj. at 1.1994 where a daily close below there would pressure price towards 1.1948 later this week. Therefore, trading the single currency from short side is the way to go.
Order board is pretty thin on this Monday with some offers tipped at 1.2035/45 with stops above 1.2060 while bids are touted at 1.2015/05 with stops reported below 1.1990.

Today is PMI day in the euro area countries, Germany will kick off with retail sales, then Italy's Markit mfg PMI, the same from France, Germany n the EU. If actual readings in Germany n the EU come in weaker than street forecasts, then one can expect further euro selling in European morning.

EUR/USD - 1.2050.. Despite staging a strong rebound from Monday's 10-day trough of 1.2014 (Europe) to as high as 1.2075 in New York morning due to usd's weakness caused by release of soft US ISM mfg PMI n falling U.S. yields, the single currency inches lower due to renewed broad-based usd buying in holiday-thin Asian morning.

As said rebound on Mon suggests 1st leg of correction from last Thursday's 8-week peak at 1.2149 has ended, consolidation is in store before prospect of another fall to next daily chart obj. at 1.1994, therefore, selling euro on intra-day recovery is still favoured.
Order board is pretty thin with some offers tipped at 1.2065/75 with stops above there while bids are noted at 1.2050/40 with stops below 1.2035.

Economic calendar is very light in the euro area countries with France's budget balance being the only data due out. We have ECB Board member de Galhau scheduled to speak at a European Investment Bank conference at 07:30GMT.
