DUBAI // As the man behind a Dh50 million foreign exchange scheme that promised to double investors’ money is arrested for a second time, investigators are now turning their attention to a second forex fraud believed to have snared thousands of Emirates crew.

Sydney Lemos, who investors claim was the protagonist in the Exential operation run from Media City, has been rearrested and is in police custody, according to lawyers.

He is accused of leading a team of sellers promising 120 per cent returns on US$20,000 accounts invested in foreign currencies. The bogus Exential trading scheme was shut down by the Economic Development Department last year.

Private investigators at UK firm Carlton Huxley, who are working on behalf of 30 clients - most of whom Emirates cabin crew - claim a second fund offering similar returns could have more victims.

UTMarkets is a UK-run website with offices in Bulgaria offering investors the chance to trade Forex and other commodities.

"Our lead investigators have established that some people involved in Exential may also be connected with UTMarkets," said John Rynne, a director of Carlton Huxley.

"Carlton Huxley has been retained by a number of clients to look into the conduct of those involved in UTMarkets.

"We are working with the Bulgarian law firm New Balkan Law Office along with authorities in the UK and Bulgaria."

The UTMarkets website makes similar profit promises to those of Exential, which left thousands devastated by debt.

The site, which remains active, offers an "unparalleled mix of forex and commodities brokerage services that’s easy to use and completely secure".

Fraud investigators said the UTMarkets scheme developed quickly through recommendations among airline workers in late 2015 and early last year as Exential started to collapse.

"We have grounds to believe there are about 6,000 UTMarkets victims, 95 per cent of whom work for Emirates airline," said one of the UK investigators, who has visited Dubai several times to interview account holders of both schemes.

"We are keeping the legal department of Emirates informed and have identified people who appear to have been actively involved with Exential who are also involved in UTMarkets."

Several UTMarkets account managers were approached for comment, but none responded.

Asif, an Emirates ground crew employee from India who has been in Dubai for 11 years, borrowed about Dh110,000 to invest in UTMarkets in January 2016. He earns Dh15,000 a month.

He was paid about Dh7,000 a month for five months, but was encouraged to reinvest most of that by relationship managers working from an office in Sofia, Bulgaria.

"I had heard of Exential for years, but had not invested," he said.

"I was hoping to plan for my future with my wife, and heard Exential account holders were having problems, so invested with UTMarkets instead. They were offering almost twice as much in monthly returns.

"My friends and colleagues at Emirates persuaded me that UTMarkets was a better investment."

He claims many who lost out through Exential ploughed more money from loans and credit cards into the UTMarkets funds in an attempt to recover their initial deposits.

Asif, who took no financial advice before handing over the cash, said he is owed about Dh84,500 from UTMarkets and was kept informed by his relationship managers via a What’sApp group that is no longer posting.

"One of my friends has invested $30,000, another $50,000," he said.

"There are a lot of people in Dubai with big financial commitments to this. The conversation with UTMarkets stopped when they stopped paying out each month. The account managers have all now disappeared. It’s hard to know if the trading information they were giving us was real, or fake."

Carlton Huxley is planning a series of free to attend educational seminars later this year in Dubai to warn about the dangers of investing in similar schemes.

You can say whatever you want and make your own conclusions as usual. Me and hundreds of people we make money over a year now by investing there and having in 5months back the capital you invested is best answer to anyone...

This is the mentality the scammers love it, I hope people learned their lessons, this is one post from the beginning of this thread, when we (the ones against UTM) were trying to explain why UTM was not safe investment for several reasons and we were attacked by UTM promoters. So next time, remember what happened to UTM and Tadawul and think 10 times before investing in those type of investments, specially when you see the same patterns, like extremely high returns, lack of regulations, employees trying to push you to invest, commission upon referral and so on.

Don't be afraid of asking as many questions you need, don't invest for the sake of investing just because others are doing and you feel you're missing the train, if the employees get annoyed by your questions, it's your first big red signal alert. Remember this, those ones who got their money and are showing off, driving luxury cars, they don't care about those who didn't have enough time and are in deeply financial problems right now, some of them lost their jobs or even worst than that. So remember this time and once you get approached by another company, that for sure it will come in the future, it will help you take better decisions and move on.

Man, I understand that you are trying to help and make us understand the risks but many people (i'm one of them) need money as easy and quick as possible so we run after this kind of investments ... yes I learned the lesson of Tadawul and UTM that I've to invest with them as soon as they start so i can get as much profit sd i can before they collapse as I regret not joining UTM back in 2015 I could now in better financial status ... and as I'm following this thread and other threads I can't find one named particular brokers or trading company that i can trust or invest in ... if you have one please NAME it so we can at least recover and get out of our financial problems that caused by UTM and Tadawul .... other than that i didn't gave up that UTM will start again and start giving profits again cause that's the only thing we can think of as we don't have other ways to get our money back ... instead of blaming us over and over for joining UTM Please advice us what to do? Either joining a trusted traders and NAME them or filing a complaint about UTM to get our money back ( which I doubt ) because we gave our money to cloudy people who we never saw!

SHAME ON YOU! You are as bad, if not worse than the criminals behind these Ponzi schemes.

Mida, you still have the mentality of a person who wants to be in a Ponzi Scheme and this is very dangerous. No you didn't learn the lesson, otherwise you wouldn't say that, you would be willing to do whatever it takes to never more be in another scheme, the truth is: There is no investment out there that will give your money back fast without being a Ponzi Scheme or HYIP. I'm a Forex Trader myself and losses are part of the game, you won't have profits every single month, my best friends got burnt with UTM and Exential and one of them has AED 1 Million locked with both companies, and I told him several times not to invest, but greed takes over and you get tempted and ignore the red signals.

I have 1 account with Exential because I didn't have much knowledge at the time and there was no one to tell me to think 10 times before investing. The reason I'm here on this thread is exactly to alert people and to show them the patterns they have to recognize before investing a penny on any type of Forex or other investments. I'm not a lawyer and to get the money back (if any) will be very, very difficult, but try the contacts written in this thread and see which outcome you may get.

With this mentality, sorry to be direct, you're as bad as the scammers and you might get luck in another one, until you fall again and again. Change this mindset before it's too late.

Please does anyone know how I can recover my money from UTMarkets?

I was once directed to contact WinChargeback, I did and after paying the 59 pounds charge for opening the case as they said they have disappeared.
Countless times I have written them with no response and even Rebecca herself doesn't care. So the whole thing looks to me like another scam. It is now over 6 months since our signed agreement and I don't get any update from them.

Any viable lead regarding this will be highly appreciated.

Thank you guys.

I'm surprised with WinChargeback not replying you, it's the only company allowed in FPA as a suggestion to try to get clients money back.

Did you talk to anyone who successfully won a case from WinChargeback? There are some examples on FPA. Otherwise WinChargeback would have banned from FPA. But it's not the case. At least by now.

Try to invite Danny or Rebecca from WinChargeback to come to this thread and ask them for a proper reply, they are many successful cases from them here. forexpeacearmy.com/forex-reviews/12467/www.winchargeback.com

This is a great read. Hope people read this and the Exential Group thread before investing with some of these type of companies, wow!

Marcelo, I followed the link you provided and found great and enticing reviews people have placed in there on WinChargeback. But my amazement is how mine has been on the contrary. Danny Foster and Rebecca don't reply to my emails and it has been over three months I got a word from them. I am just considering my case abandoned by WinChargeback since I have to beg for updates on the progress of the process yet they ignore me.
Please help me, how can I invite Rebecca and Danny Foster here so that people here can also hep me check if really these people are working on my case or not.
