I do set them when I create the order, I just a have an EA that monitors moving average of spreads over time and if it becomes elevated, it is deemed as a volatility sign and SL width can be increased.
This is an interesting approach to risk management and adaptation of trading strategies. However, there is a likelihood of EA malfunctions or errors in monitoring.

Why? it is the hard code that receives prices and adjust applies mathematical formula to calculate moving average of spreads. I don't see how the code can let you down, except of course platform outages.
