Any clue what really happened in AUDCAD last day?

My accounts were having few positions in AUDCAD and all the positions were closed with huge slippage of nearly 100 pips. When I asked my broker they informed me that due spread widening I lost my positions which I don’t believe. Please anyone there who can tell me what exactly happened- is spread widened in the currency pair or my broker just killed me?

There were several major news events for the CAD scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Also, one of the RBA Governors was speaking.
